My name is Radmir, I'm 26. My life is inextricably linked with graphic design – this will become clear to you from the answers to other questions.

I became interested in design in October 2014. But long before that, my favorite school subjects were history and geometry. The contrast between seemingly random accidents of historical events and the harmony of geometric proportions always fascinated me.

At university, I studied the history of antiquity and drew in the technique of pencil graphics battle scenes of famous combats. The ability to analyze, decompose an event into its component parts combined with the desire to symbolically express in the image the main idea of what is happening. After all, a symbol is a double sign: its form and content are equally important. It turned out that the ancient symbols, understood by man several thousand years ago, could be still read today – but it is important to "draw" a symbol correctly, to depict it correctly. Right means in such a way that the symbol (or the logo in graphic design) works based on the information enclosed in it.

How and when did you get interested in the world of graphic design? And when did you realize it could be your job?

History is information, geometry is a form. Content and expression. Divine beauty can only be expressed with the help of divine proportions, which Fibonacci, Leonardo da Vinci, Pythagoras tried to describe. And in its turn, divine proportions cannot be empty - it is infinity, Ouroboros, a snake, biting its own tail. And I am completely swallowed by this snake. When I realized this, it became my business, my work.

My interests are as follows: graphics, history, geometry – they greatly influenced my style, the principles that I follow in design. And not only in design – also in my life. For example, I used to move from city to city quite often: I have as many things as can fit in a backpack. Only essential - nothing more. This is enough for a comfortable life. Now I still live in one place, but I keep the principle.

I think graphic design is the foundation of design in a comprehensive sense, of a design that can change the world for the better. In this sense, I was greatly influenced by the book titled "Design for the Real World" by Viktor Papanek. I am a small part of the world that can leave its tiny mark in history. I don't want to be just a consumer – I want to show people the beauty of familiar things. Beauty means sense.

What does it mean for you to do the Graphic Designer Today?

The degree, I think, doesn't matter. If a person wants, he will acquire the necessary skills on his or her own. I don't have a degree in graphic design, I studied everything myself – and in this fact I personally find more advantages than disadvantages. For example, I study only what I need, what really interests me. And this is reflected in my work. This allows you to achieve your own individual handwriting, your own style.

How important do you think a degree in a Graphic Design course is and how much do you think can affect it in the world of work today?

I do not use templates and standardized approaches. I try to pay a lot of attention to typography, considering it as a separate area of study. For example, I am interested in the evolution of writing and its perception today. After all, each form has one or another meaning, and this is very important.

The space is important because it gives the opportunity to focus on the meaningful, to control the view. And here knowledge of semiotics, semantics, psychology, cultural studies and anthropology is widely used. Therefore, it is difficult to create a template – for each project there are a lot of variable data.

In your designs, you often use a minimalist approach, a reasoned use of white and empty spaces, with detailed care for layout and typography. Can you tell us how to develop the "behind the scenes" of your project? Do you use a standard method for each project?

Each project, if we talk about backstage, about draft, begins with analysis, historical research. Everyone has an individual specific. This act makes it all even more interesting. While working on a project, I always learn new things in parallel, broaden my horizons. Template for this approach is harmful.

I won my last award at the German Design Award 2019 competition. However, personally, I don't strive to participate in any competitions – for example, the German Design Award 2019 was nominated by the organizers themselves. Of course, I was pleased, but if it didn't happen, I would not be upset.

Every completed project makes me happier, especially the publication of a project in my portfolio. Each project is a chance to become better, to learn new things, to improve my professionalism.

With your works you have won many awards.
What was your last winning project and which made you happier and more satisfied?

It is clear that the presence of awards affects a personal brand, especially in our global world, where people learn about each other indirectly via the Internet. However, the rewards for me are like a nice bonus, not an end in itself.

Social networks gave an opportunity to expand the visual horizon of people, gave us an opportunity to see more. This is food for our thought, thanks to which you can change yourself for the better. To use it or not – up to each person to decide.

Do you think that social networks have somehow changed the essence of Design? If yes, how?

I think that design is information expressed in a visual way. It can be interpreted, taking into account many factors, as I said earlier: sign systems, archetypes, and cultural baggage. This enables visual communication. If you correctly combine the form and the content, then this will make the final result universal, not very dependent on fashion and current trends. At the same time, trends are important - for me this is a way of slightly different interpretation of information into a visual image without changing its essence.

What do you think of the trends that are often used in graphic projects?

In other words, trends can and should be followed, but it should be done wisely. It is important not to change the essence and the purpose of design, design in a comprehensive sense.

The concept of "graphic design skills" includes many different skills that make the result more intense and deep. For online work, it seems to me, it is important to be able to communicate, respect and study someone else's culture, mentality, even the structure of the language. At a minimum, the designer needs this to understand the problem and search for its solution.

Do you think it is enough to have only graphic design skills to approach the world of online work? If not, what do you think are other useful skills?

In general, the Internet and software are only tools to achieve the ultimate goal.

Aesthetics is the last refuge of morality.

The ability to see and create beauty for me is not only about design, but about human actions as well. An honest act is a beautiful act, a conscious rejection of meanness and evil.

Do you want to add something?
Add something you think interesting to the topic.

Design is not just a decoration, it is more. Design disciplines, design teaches – and there is no limit, it is really infinity. Design changes people – and changes the world. It works.

Thank you!
